What is Amazon Leo?

Amazon Leo is Amazon’s newly branded satellite broadband initiative (formerly Project Kuiper), built on a constellation of 3,000+ low-Earth orbit satellites. It aims to provide fast, reliable internet to the world – including underserved and remote areas that previously have had little to no access.

The ambition of Amazon Leo’s business, along with the underlying mission to bring internet to the world, was both inspiring and incredibly challenging. This was not just launching a new device or service – it was establishing the telecommunications backbone as well as the go-to-market strategy (in tandem) for a global ISP built on space-based technology. Talk about building the plane while you are flying it!

UX Operations

My role at Leo was ultimately to bring order to chaos. I joined a very small (but mighty!) product design team tasked with bringing Leo’s customer experiences to life across B2C, B2B, and a variety of surfaces. Our team’s remit included the global web experience, app design, enterprise experience on AWS Console, and professional installer interface.

Some key accomplishments:

  • Established & evolved of our product development process

  • Drove roadmapping and operations across a highly-matrixed and rapidly growing org (UX, Product, Engineering)

  • Established our team’s early testing and UXR operations – getting early signal and validation while working at breakneck speed

  • Shepherded 5 digital products from concept to beta
